Rapture?

A few days ago, I saw a white minivan driving on the highway sporting a few bumper-stickers with messages referring to the rapture. These weren't the everyday "Jesus is coming, are you ready?" stickers. These stickers claimed the Messiah would be returning precisely at 6PM on May 21, 2011. This is just a few days away! Did I miss the invite? I do attend church every week, I go to bible studies and have many friends of many denominations. Somehow, they forgot to tell me. So I did what any smart person looking for information would do, I Googled it. After researching the whole 5/21/11 rapture prophesy claims made by Oakland minister Harold Camping,  I chuckled a bit in my mind (I didn't laugh out loud). I started to think about what would happen if he were right.

Please do not misunderstand what I am saying here. I am not a crazy person; I do not believe Christ is returning on 5/21/11, as Camping is proclaiming. However, I do believe Christ will come at some point and I do believe what it says in 2 Peter 3:10-14 says, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. …the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. … But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.”

What does this mean? He could come at anytime. He could come now, next week, five thousand years from now, or even on 5/21/11. What am I doing to prepare myself? I guess not a whole lot. It was just an interesting thought I had...
